Description

Hanging lights with tau cable emit a particularly beautiful light that warms the soul and body and creates a warm atmosphere. Handlooms in Brama Town, Sierra Leone. The sticks are made from dried bamboo bushes that grow wild in the vicinity of the village.

Small: Height approx. 25 cm, Width approx. 28 cm

Large: Height approx. 32 cm, Width approx. 40 cm

Icelandic Design produced in Sierra Leone.

The material is obtained from the forest around Brama Town in Sierra Leone or from nearby communities, who sell it to the weavers. They start by cutting it, which means they cut the material into equal lengths before splitting it - first into small pieces and then into fine rods. The material must then dry in the sun for at least 30 minutes, although drying can take up to two or three days when wet. Once the fabric is dry enough, the weavers clean it and then they can finally start weaving their product. Each product is then woven by the villagers of Brama Town who have practiced this craft since childhood. Each product takes a long time and a lot of care. It has often been difficult to get Hugdetta's designers' ideas properly into the right form, but with good and long cooperation, that process has managed to develop in the right direction.
