Description

Each pillow is handcrafted from organic cotton from Sierra Leone. The cotton is hand-spun and dyed with vegetable dyes according to old traditions in that country. The cotton is then hand woven and sewn in Free Town. Extremely soft and good. Inner cushion is made of down.

Two sizes:

Little:

Large: Height 60 cm, Width 90 cm

Icelandic Design produced in Sierra Leone.

Cotton cultivation ceased during the civil war and the Ebola epidemic, as did most production in the country. With the creation of the Sweet Salone project, cotton cultivation has seen the light of day again, and it is hoped that this cultivation will yield enough material for that production. The cotton is grown in the highlands of Sierra Leone, picked by hand and then spun on small hand spindles. Roots and herbs are picked and dried to make the dyes that the cotton is then soaked in. From the dyeing, the cotton goes to the capital, where it is handwoven by Ibrahim Kallon (see picture) and finally sewn together by Foday Thoranka. See video below. Many hands and a lot of patience go into making each product.
