One of the things that makes Alpaca wool unique is that it is naturally thermoregulating.
This suits us extremely well here in Iceland, as we know well that the weather often changes during the day.
The alpaca animal, which is a member of the camel family, lives at an altitude of over 4000 meters above sea level. Hot days and cold nights have caused the animal to develop wool with unique properties. The wool is extremely insulating, protecting against cold and heat at the same time.
Sustainability and responsible production
Alpaca wool is also inherently sustainable, as it comes to us directly from free-ranging alpacas in their natural habitat. At As We Grow, we make sure that all transactions with the wool are fair trade, which means, among other things, that the remuneration of those involved in the production is appropriate and that the environment is healthy. The responsible production of the alpaca wool enables the native women of the region to work and support their children's education.
