Katie Watts caught our eye a while back with her beautiful photography and feed on Instagram @bet_agna , named after her children Bettie and Agna. We chat to her about all things work and family.

Tell us about your family

I'm Katie, I'm 36 and I'm a mother of 2 girls and married to my husband Keith. We live by Leigh-on-Sea in Essex.
Keith and I have been together for 19 years, married for 10.
Our eldest daughter is Bettie-Jo aged 8 and our youngest is Agna-Gray and she's 4.
My husband is a carpenter and a talented illustrator. We work together on our small business called YOURTYPE PRINT . We offer a range of tailored designs and have an account on Instagram called @yourtypeprint.
I'm a stylist and have been for some time now 13 years to be precise. Originally a hairdresser and still dip in and out of that for friends and family (when I have the time).
I have recently got into photography and have been working as a photographer now for the past 4 years and absolutely loving it.

As a photographer, what is your top tip for photographing children?

Photographing children can be as tricky or as easy as you make it really.
I try and make it as fun and playful as possible for the children because at the end of the day they are children and I love to catch them whilst they are in their own little world which sometimes is the most perfect moment for a shot.
Children have the best imagination so it's just best to go with them really and just direct them where it's needed.

Has Instagram changed the way you photograph? If so how?

Instagram has been amazing for my work like I'm sure it has been for a lot of other creatives.
I feel that my work has become stronger thanks to the inspiration I find on Instagram for both my styling and photography, but there is always room for improvement.
I've had some amazing and exciting opportunities, I'm really looking forward to see what 2020 will bring for me.

What are the first things you look out for when dressing Bettie and Agna?

When dressing my girls, I look for clothes that have room to move and play so they feel comfortable with lovely and good quality fabrics.
I spend a reasonable amount of money on the girls' clothes but I try not to buy many as they are mostly in their school uniforms during the week so I always like them looking nice at the weekends ready for a family weekend together.
We invest in a few key pieces and the rest is to mix and match. Bettie and Agna have a similar style to each other but as Bettie is 8 now so she seems to be creating her own little style which I love as she always looks great but still her age which I find important as there are so many children now dressing far too old for their age {maybe I'm the old one ;-) } but my mother dressed me very similar to how I dress my girls with a nostalgic feel and a classic look.

The best tips for stylish children's dressing are..
I think having an opinion and guiding your child's style is important as you are a role model to them. If I let Agna dress herself she would be walking around in a pink unicorn summer outfit in the bitter cold winter so not a good idea lol!
I feel that children need a little say in what they wear as they are all so different.
I understand it's hard to meet them half way but it's a good idea if you can.
I've been a huge fan of As We Grow for over 3 years now as their styles are oversized which I love and has plenty of room for children to move, play and feel comfortable.
The girls love the big pockets in the gorgeous dresses as they can pop the treasures they find in them. The dresses are designed for growth so you can wear them for a couple of years and pass them down to a younger sibling.

Our favorite pieces from the As We Grow collection are
We love the pocket dresses in the gorgeous navy checked and charcoal micro-checked.
